Congratulations to Dr. Anna Marusiak and Dr. Karolina Szczepanowska from IMol The International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines, Polish Academy of Sciences – laureates of SONATA BIS grants! This prestigious award from The National Science Centre is addressed to independent researchers who wish to establish their own groups. Our leaders win funds reaching nearly 8.5 million PLN.
Karolina Szczepanowska, Group Leader at IMol, about her winning project in the area of metabolism: Our research group will study the role of proline metabolism in cells with respiratory chain dysfunction and whether we can target it to combat mitochondrial diseases.
Anna Marusiak, Group Leader at IMol, about her winning project in the area of oncogenesis: Our research group will study the biology of MLK4 kinase in cancer cells. We want to understand the cellular mechanisms regulated by MLK4 and use that knowledge to design better and safer anticancer therapies.
